May 28th -- "The Day of the Lord" 2 Peter 3:1-2

Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. I want you to RECALL the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles.

The word of the Prophets & the Command given by our Lord and Savior through your Apostles.

Sounds to me like we are encouraged to RECALL. How can we recall if we have not heard, through study?? "...but it is enough for me to go to church most Sunday's and gain my knowledge from a 35 minute sermon." "Besides, I am way too busy to "study", to read, and to meditate on the Word of God."

But...if we do not know the Word then how will we stand up to the "scoffers" that will come in these last days?

vs. 17 Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, BE ON YOUR GUARD so that you may not be carried away by the ERROR of lawless men and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

If we are to WAJD then we must grow in grace (and knowledge)..

How do we grow in grace?? Does anyone have an idea?

Hmmm...

It's so easy just to jump in and respond to your question without some time to think and reflect on my own life. So after a little time to think about it I must concur. And so I agree with you that life is sooooo busy. And it we're too busy...well, we're just too busy.

It is this "busy-ness" that prevents us at times from being brutally honest with ourselves and with the acid test and mirror of God's word on our lives.

However, a few words come to mind as I have read and reread this insert: Balance; journey; adventure; working out my salvation; gentleness and compassion; patience; passion.

OK, I know I've said more than a few words, but I just can't resist.

Life really is "the journey." We aren't ever going to arrive---not until we see Him as He is and our bodies are changed from everlasting to everlasting. So the question asked is a double-edged sword. On the one side, I recognize the need for passionate living for Christ, for passion in how I revere the Word and how I long to have it applied to my daily life. Yet on the other side, I also see the need to balance passion with understanding and with patience first with myself, and then with others.

Of course, the supreme example for me is Christ Himself. Every time I watch Him as I read the gospels I am amazed at how He responds to people and how He reacts to situations.

Growing in grace is nothing if it is not watching Jesus. Growing in grace is learning to apply His life to my everyday living. It is storming the fences in my heart that have been set up as barriers to Him, and giving the Holy Spirit the permission to clean up the camp and move into those rooms that have yet to see the light of Christ shone in....

...and that is "the adventure." If we keep working at it, even after multiple stumbles, is it not the persistent activity of trying again, of pressing on, of striving for more, of encouraging our brothers, of hanging on...is this not the adventure of grace in action?

Isn't this how we see grace at work in our lives and the lives of those around us?

OK everyone...where are you?

Where are rants?
Where are the raves?
Where has everyone gone who thought that this blog would keep us connected? Challenged? Supported?

Time to get back together, y'all!
